Emily's CD.......Sawin' and Singin' 1) Cajun Fiddle...Emily kicks off her CD with this well-known Cajun style fiddle classic. If you want to listen to Emily and Banjophil play this selection on YouTube, click here. 2) I Wish You Knew...This Jim and Jesse favorite has some nice, tight harmonies that are characteristic of bluegrass music. To round out the bluegrass sound, Banjophil adds his hard-driving banjo to the mix. 3) There Is A Time...Originally done by the Dillards, this minor-key tune features close harmonies and more fine banjo work by your hero, Banjophil. 4) Cherokee Shuffle...An exciting banjo/fiddle instrumental. 5) Rose Of My Heart...A nice waltz with good harmony and fine twin fiddle work by Emily. 6) Jolene...Written and originally performed by Polly Darton, this haunting melody will be an instant favorite. 7) Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man...If you like that Cajun beat (...and who doesn't?) you'll love Emily's version of this Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn song. Banjophil is the Mississippi Man, while Emily sings the Louisiana Woman part. You'll love the Cajun fiddle on the break, and if you listen really closely, you might be able to pick up the accordion part in a couple of places! 8) Thibodeaux...Sometimes referred to as "That One Cajun Song," this is Emily's most requested number. You'll love the Cajun fiddle work and the three part harmonies featured on this one. 9) Rocky Top...If bluegrass had a theme song, this would be it. Emily adds a new dimension to the song by singing all three parts on the chorus. 10) Governor General...You've probably never heard of this traditional fiddle waltz. To tell you the truth, we'd never heard of it either, until a few years ago when Banjophil's mad-scientist brother from New York played it for us. It's a great tune, though. So good, in fact, that Emily gets many requests to perform this one at local dances. 11) Mansion Over The Hilltop...Who hasn't heard of this old-time Gospel classic? You'll be singing along from the first verse. 12) Where No Cabins Fall...A unique Gospel song. 13) Roses of Avenmore...You'll love this great fiddle waltz, but you might as well forget trying to remember the name of it. Half the time, we can't even remember what it's called! 14)...I'll Fly Away...Where would old-time Gospel music be without this one? 15) Fishers Of Men...A relatively new bluegrass a capella song. Emily sings the lead, while Banjophil adds the other three parts. 16) Black Mountain Rag...This is a particularly delightful fiddle tune which require cross-tuning. Be sure to have your jig-dancing shoes on before listening to this one! 17) J'ai Passe' Devant ta Porte...(Translation, "I Stopped By Your Door") We end the CD with this well-known and much-loved Cajun waltz. The melody is simple, but you will surely find yourself hitting the repeat button to experience this one over and over. |
